Mounting decides more of the delivered performance than the datasheet gain does. This page covers outdoor, wall-mounted installs for antenna polarization explained: what the mount has to survive, how the feedline should be routed, and which models are built for it.
What the mount has to carry
A wall mount transfers load into the fixings, so the fixing has to suit the substrate. A resin anchor in solid masonry behaves nothing like a plug in rendered blockwork. Keep the antenna clear of the wall face so the structure does not distort the pattern. The longest model on this page is 305 mm, which is the figure to size the bracket against.
Feedline and connector
Keep the run short; the point of a wall mount is usually that the radio sits just inside the wall. Seal the penetration from the outside so water cannot track along the jacket into the building.
Sequence on site
- Confirm the antenna band and connector against the radio before anything goes up.
- Dry-fit the bracket and check clearance to structure, cable trays and other antennas.
- Select fixings for the actual substrate and set the standoff clear of the wall face.
- Seal the wall penetration from the outside and fit a drip loop.
- Terminate and seal the connector, then check VSWR at the radio end before closing anything up.
- Record the model, serial and install position for the site file.
