Mounting decides more of the delivered performance than the datasheet gain does. This page covers vehicle or window, suction cup installs for gps / gnss antennas: what the mount has to survive, how the feedline should be routed, and which models are built for it.
What the mount has to carry
A suction cup loses grip as the seal ages and as temperature cycles the rubber. Treat it as a temporary mount, check it before each trip, and use a safety tether on anything mounted externally. The longest model on this page is 780 mm, which is the figure to size the bracket against.
Feedline and connector
The supplied lead is fixed length, so plan the route before mounting. Do not run it through a door aperture that closes on it.
Sequence on site
- Confirm the antenna band and connector against the radio before anything goes up.
- Dry-fit the bracket and check clearance to structure, cable trays and other antennas.
- Clean and dry both surfaces, seat the cup fully, and fit a safety tether.
- Terminate and seal the connector, then check VSWR at the radio end before closing anything up.
- Record the model, serial and install position for the site file.
